Gravity

GRAVITY is the most under utilised resource

This is for the purpose of getting water to animals. Here I use their shelter to harvest water.

This is how we use GRAVITY instead of electricity to water our garden beds

The technical stuff

Pipe pressure with elevation is that with every 70cm drop in elevation you will get 1psi of water pressure. So let the water use its own weight do the work you would normally get an electric water pump do, use slope of the hill.

Really, all you need to know is that:

The greater the pipe size, the greater the flow (velocity).

One more thing to know is that the energy in the system is determined by the elevation difference between the top (position of tank) and bottom (say the sprinklers) of your system.

The Simplified version

But I am a practical person and I have done it through trial and error.

Materials needed

Water source – either bore or Roof or combination of both which is even better

Something to contain the water – dam or tanks

Gravity2

Moving the water from one point to another – 1” (25mm) pvc pipe, comes in 6 metre lengths

Distributing the water – you will need a range of fittings like elbows, tees, plastic taps and 13mm green garden hose

Gravity3

Applying the water to the garden- Dome Sprinkler with ½” (13mm) fittings

And that’s how it works.
