First things to do when you realise the SHTF
Don’t shit yourself, just go throught this list and give/delegate jobs and tasks. Lots to do. Don’t get upset, get organised.
- Security – Do you need to fortify your house, think Hesly/Gabion Barriers. Can you form a neighbourhood/street group? Think piquets?
- Shelter – Is your house in habitable condition, do you have a tent as a backup? Can you sleep somewhere, in what, how many required?
- Sanitation – is the toilet usable, is there an alternative such as a compost toilet? Enough toilet paper/alternate to paper available? Assign a place and start digging a poo pit etc.
- Water supply – If its down, do you have rainwater collection available? Can you purify? Start thinking gravity feed water systems.
- Food – Whats available in pantry/fridge? Do you have a garden? Whats in the garden? Can you cook? LPG bottles – bbq cooking. Can you process harvested produce? Wood fired stove? Pizza Ovens can be useful?
- Medical supplies? How long will what you have last?
- Lighting – batteries/torches/skylights in kitchen?
- Hygiene – do you have enough water to wash/ soap, got any? do you know how to make it out of ash and animal fat, saponification process etc.
If not, get to work.
