The Christchurch earthquakes showed up the inherent vulnerability of centralised sewer systems based on water flushing to a pipe collection network and single large treatment facility.
The pipe network is underground and always leaks, and the whole pipe system from the household connection pipe to the treatment facility has to function for the system to work.
To this end volunteers put together an off grid solution of compost toilets.

After you set this up all you need is toilet paper and cover material:
- forest litter
- untreated sawdust (semi broken down is best)
- dry leaves
- shredded paper
- soil
- untreated wood shavings.

Credit goes where credit is due, I don’t make this crap up. LOL.
